Big News!!!

The Merge!

Have you heard about the merge happening? Remember Steph's blog post back in August? http://www.give1save1africa.blogspot.com/2013/08/i-bid-you-goodbye-for-whileand-ask-you.html We have worked really, really hard on this merge, and we are so excited to be bringing all of the continents back under one roof  blog. We are really pumped about spreading the word and bringing in new members to help our families.

By doing this we accomplish a lot. We only have a handful of volunteers and this will really help us give you a better blog by combining our efforts. We are also able to combine our donations and be a larger help to one family each week. We get to condense our email contacts to one email. giveonesaveone@gmail.com will go straight to Katie R. who is the organizational genius behind, well everything that seems organized!

We have one goal here at Give1Save1, to help families fund their adoptions. In order to do that we pull together as a community to heap blessings on these families. We each give $1 and we pass the word along through social media.

Are you a part of our readers? We need you. I know it's easy to think that your $1 doesn't make a difference, but it does. I know it also seems like an impossible thing to make a dent in a $30,000 adoption, but we can and we do.

So, here is the grand plan
This week we are merging. You are going to need to bookmark a new website address. It's going to be www.giveonesaveone.blogspot.com. One big happy family. Join us. No, literally, join the membership! We have bloglovin set up on our new blog so that you can be sure to not miss a single family.

We are updating our twitter account and will have Jennifer keeping that baby up to date. Our twitter will be Give1Save1adopt.

We are on Pinterest and have loads going on over there now.

We will have an email newsletter. It will really help condense everything in one spot and highlight our families. Sign up here,
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1qWpdnIkwF0iPM_EM-0zwX8UQ6QfksoTeL6IeprbOLVE/viewform

We are going to have a week of giveaways! So, get ready to share the word about give1save1.

We are rolling out some cool Give1Save1 gear to purchase so stay tuned for that.

Without members giving faithfully every week we are nothing. We can't make a dent without you guys. You are the most important part of what we do.

You are going to love our new blog!

New family of the week- The Williams!!!

Please, welcome the Williams family to Give1Save1!!!
I kinda like them.
There different. They stand out. They live their lives according to God's plan
not their own.
I kinda like them.

They have been rocked this past week. In their video you will see that they
were headed to bring three sibings home from Uganda.
They even have the van to cart the whole gang in.
But, God had other plans.

I just opened their email yesterday and my heart broke for them.
The siblings were no longer available for adoption.
Now, from what I gather.
This is a good thing!!
They had a family member come back to get them.
Awesome!
But heartbreaking for the family that has loved them and
now they will never meet them.

But this amazing family is moving forward, knowing
with their whole hearts that God still has His hand in this.
So, we are going to wrap our arms around them this week.
And remind them that God's ways are so much higher than ours.

Here is their video:

And here is their Pure Charity link:

Stay tuned for tidbits about their family this week!!

Monday Madness

Here I am. Your amazing writer/blogger. You laugh with me, cry with me and advocate with me. Today let's all allow our faces to hide in shame.
I goofed. Again.
I thought I was being all organized (not my strong point) and emailed the families that I have waiting for a spot on Give1Save1. I marked them all on the calendar for the next three weeks. Score. I was ready for the month of October to begin.

Then, I got this email: Hi Katie, We were featured last week and it was an amazing blessing! Thank you!

Um, tell me I did not just email my family from last week? I did.
Head hanging in shame.

Really, I do remember all the faces.
I'm just terrible with names.and organization.

I worked myself up completely wondering how to fix this one when I realized that maybe God has a purpose in my madness. Maybe the Heppner's could really use a boost. And guess what? They can!

I worked myself all up over this wondering if people would be upset because they didn't get two weeks or because they already gave this family $1. But you know what? I know you guys. You are all awesome and have hearts of gold. You want to help these families. This family still needs around $7,000.

So, I'm just going to go with it! I already messed it up so lets see how amazing we can make this week for the Heppners...again. :)

What are we going to do about that $7,000? People, let's erase it.

New Family of the Week, The McDaniel's!

I want to start this week out by thanking all of you that follow us. I recently saw a blog post that brought me back to the orphanage in China that I visited with our new son. It brought me back to that moment of seeing hundreds of faces with eyes that had lost their sparkle and hundreds of voices screaming out to us. In that moment everything I knew of this world fell to pieces. I broke in that moment. Broke.

There exists in the world a strong apathy towards these children. It's as if we want to forget they exist. But here at Give1Save1 we are fighting back. You come back week after week to prove the world wrong. You remind the world that there is strength in numbers and every single week we come back and we battle the apathy. We shine light on the darkness that threatens the children. I am so encouraged by every single one of you. Your dollar is so much more than a dollar.

This week I'm pleased to introduce to you Tim and Megan McDaniel. They are in the final stages to bring home their daughter from Ethiopia. She is turning four years old soon!
McDaniel Adoption Story from Tim McDaniel on Vimeo.

This is their third adoption as a family. Talk about fighting back! This sweet family is so ready and eager to bring their daughter/sister home. Sena is her name and she has an army behind her. Her siblings have done everything they possibly can to pull their own weight and have willingly sold their own belongings.

I love when children are involved. There is a purity in what they are doing that reminds us of the heart of God.

Sweetness surrounds this family. I was here to encourage them and instead they ended up encouraging me with their patience and sweet spirits. Sometimes you come across a family and they just leave an imprint on your life. That is the McDaniel family.

The McDaniel family has done everything they possibly can to get to their daughter and bring her home. Right now they need us. They need us to remember that Sena is not just another face in a sea of thousands. Sena is beautiful and real and she has a family fighting to get her home.

Let's band together once again this week and help bring Sena home.
Head over to Pure Charity and donate $1 to their family fund. And if you want to really be a rebel...skip the $1 and give a little more. :)

NET PROJECT UPDATE!!

Time for an update from Ashley Haden because you guys blew it out of the water.......

" My original goal was simply to raise funds to buy 31 nets to cover babies in one orphanage...and you guys blew that away! You bought 86 nets for babies and children and 12 wind up/solar lanterns (upgraded from flashlights because these are larger and will light an entire room) for orphanages. And as if that wasn't enough, several generous folks sent unearmarked donations that purchased 3 first aid kits, many sets of new underpants and 20 plastic zippered mattress covers (mattresses often have mold growth due to soiling/lack of access to diapers) for 2 orphanages. I'm blown away by your generosity and HUGE hearts. I'm eager to share photos of all that you have done for these children. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!!"

Do good.  Be rich in good deeds.  Be generous and willing to share.

Buy Mosquito Nets For Babies!

Hey there! We have an opportunity for you to help in a BIG way.  Hear what a former Give1Save1Africa mama, Ashley Haden, has to say about what's going on in Africa, where her child currently lives.  She's in the midst of her second adoption and is asking for our help.

"There are 31 babies that need mosquito protection nets in this orphanage! My lofty goal is that perhaps we can provide each child with a net for their crib/sleeping space. This will reduce their chance of being bitten by a disease carrying mosquito at night by up to 90%! The nets I am purchasing are World Health Organization endorsed and insecticide treated (necessary for full protection) and cost $13/net. I will order them personally, receive them at my house and ensure they are delivered to the orphanage. If we end up with more net donations then we need I will use any excess to order wind-up (no batteries required) flashlights (Cost is $10 for 2 flashlights on amazon.com). There are very frequent power outages and the "mamas" that care for the children are finding it very difficult to feed bottles and care for sick babies in the middle of the night with no power. Thanks for helping these babies!"

Okay, I know you're already on board and ready to donate.  Get on your paypal and send a gift (remember, by choosing "sending $ to fam/friends"  you can avoid the fees)  Send your gift to:

                AHHSTL@SBCGLOBAL.NET

Let's go ahead and buy all 31 babies a net. It can truly save their lives

Thanks so much!

-Tonya:)

The Schmid Family!!!

Have you ever seen pictures of a family and they just made you want to meet that family?
That's the Schmids. Hilarity spills out of their family photos.
See?

Anyone that is awesome enough to post pictures like this on their blog is
someone I want to meet and spend the day with and laugh until our bellies hurt.

They once lived in Michigan. Um...hello, move back please? Let's hang.
Or at least strategically plan our next April fools day together.

In case you are still holding out on their awesomeness
here is their video.

Our Adoption from Jennifer Schmid on Vimeo.

Dance Party?
For the love!!!! Move home. Michigan is calling your name.
So, bottom line? The Schmids rock.
They are still waiting on a referral for a little one from Africa.
They need our help to finish this journey.

Not feeling Pure Charity? It's okay!
We have access to paypal too.

Labor Day

Do you have labor day traditions? Maybe a last camping trip of the summer?

We are headed to a baseball game and spending the weekend with family. School here always starts the day after labor day. Anyone else feel like it robs the holiday of it's relaxation when you know a huge event starts the very next morning?

What about you? Have you started school yet? Are you going away for the weekend?

My Challenge

I have realized over the last week how even some of my own family members don't know about Give1Save1. What?!? I know. I was shocked myself.

How many people do you know that are actual members of Give1Save1? Are you spreading the word? Half of our mission here is to spread the word. If we don't get our families names out there then we are limiting our pool of donors for them.

Here is my challenge to you. Spread it. Recruit friends and family. You never know who in the world has missed those status updates completely.

Can you email your close friends?
Do you have a blog and can do one big post about us over here?
Here is the link to our About Page: http://give1save1africa.blogspot.com/p/what-is-thanks-so-much-for-stopping-by.html
Can you comment back here and let us know what you are doing to spread the word about Give1Save1?

Oh and please, please, please, if you know of a family adopting send them our way!!!

Keep sharing about the Maloney Family this week!

New Family- Meet the Maloney's!

I love what I do here at Give1Save1. Seriously, I get to know the most amazing, generous people!
Our family of the week is the Maloney family.
Hello Cuteness.
The Maloneys
Lacey has done a really great job of keeping her blog updated and letting us have a view of their process. It never ceases to amaze me how God works. You absolutely MUST read her blog and see how God has worked every detail together to even bring them to our Give1Save1 page.
Posts like this one:

and this one:

Here is their sweet video. These stories people. These stories renew hope and faith.
They remind us that the world is so much smaller and
God is so much bigger than we think.

Wednesday Check in

Phew. We started back up with schooling and it's grueling. As a family we homeschool our kids and this year we have three in school. One who is still learning the language.

Apparently, it's harder than I anticipated to practice your letter sounds when, well you can't make those letter sounds. I never realized how much B,C,D and E and G sound alike until today! Good night, but English is a hard language. However, I still contend that Chinese was harder...

Have you found any helpful teaching tools for teaching English as a second language?

I found this: http://esl-kids.com/
It looks really helpful with all kinds of printable worksheets and flashcards!

This one says there is a $25 membership fee. http://www.eslkidstuff.com/ Has anyone used it before me?

Help a girl out. Anyone, anywhere have some great links/websites/donotpanicadvice

New family of the Week- The Maxfields

We live in such a small, small world. Our family of the week was introduced to me through a friend from high school who has also adopted. I did a post about this amazing etsy shop.

I bought a t-shirt, which I love, and I asked for help in learning all about adoptions from Africa. All with this lady.
Lisa Maxfield

Now, here is the thing. I know there should be a video. But Lisa was in the middle of talking to me and applying for Give1Save1 when God decided to move huge mountains and put her on a plane for her court date in Ethiopia. Say, what?!? It was crazy fast.

Not so long ago I was on a plane coming home from China and I remember the numb feeling that jet lag leaves behind. I just could not in good conscience ask this sweet family to make a video.
Why? Well...
 A. Nobody wants to see anyone looking that bad, nobody.
B. Nobody can think straight after leaving their baby behind in another country.
C. If God moved faster than we thought, who am I to stand in His way. Clearly, He wants the Maxfield's to bring their son home quickly!

So,
Meet The Maxfields!

Once upon a time, a very, very long time ago, there was a little girl who met a little boy in first grade. They grew up and the boy fell in love with the girl when he was only twelve years old. He loved her smile, her brown eyes and the way she laughed and the funny clothes that she wore. He pursued her and eventually she realized what she was missing and she fell in love with him.

God sent them far, far away to South Africa to learn all about Him and His work in this world.
Then God blessed them with a little baby girl from Vanuatu. They named her Koral.

Then God blessed them again with Caden from Ethiopia.

Then a little boy popped up in Lisa's emails. Boom.
We all know how this story goes. We've all been there. A little face, a passion in your heart and you realize that you just found out you have a child on the other side of the world.

I may or may not be a little jealous that I didn't see his picture first.

 Yep, definitely jealous.

So, the Maxfield's need our help. This adoption is happening fast, really fast.  As is hopping on a plane before they can even make a video fast. That's a lot of money without a lot of time to get it all together.
This family rocks my world with their determination to love the lost.
So, go spread this post. Spread it every.single.day.
Donate a few dollars to help them bring Myles home.
They also have a blog to check out: http://justlove127.com/

One last sweet picture. Love this.

Blessings,

Who am I-Katie

You may be wondering who has taken over here on Africa's page. You may also wonder if I have my act together after this week. Don't worry. You are not alone. I wonder too.

I am Katie! I've been hanging out with my pal Tonya on our Asia page for a while now and I'm speed learning all about Africa and the many different adoptions here. It's all very new and exciting to me!

So here are some basics:

Family-
I am married to my college sweetheart. He is the kindest man I know. I can't tell you how blessed I am to have him. We have four children, aka The Fab Four, one girl and three boys. They rock. They are ages 8,6,5 and 3.

Favorites (in random order)-
adoption, China, purple, broccoli, worship, The Old Testament, nature, Autumn, bulky sweaters, a man named Craig, justice, reflective writing, books, Psalms, running, Jesus, redemption, people watching, princesses, superheroes...especially small ones, wrapped in capes, that fly off of furniture...my furniture.

Fears-
snakes, failing, losing things (an unfortunate reality), that someday I will bury my son, that the faces of orphans will always haunt my dreams, that the faces of orphans will stop haunting my dreams, that my children won't love Jesus, and snakes. Did I mention snakes? Snakes.

My heart for adoption-
My heart fell in love with Jesus when I was a young girl. Then I fell in love with adoption a few
years later. By third grade I was in love with three things, Jesus, orphans and China. My parents smiled when I told them I was headed to China someday. Only God himself knew how long and winding that road to China would be. But He is faithful, always. The winding road taught me that.

My writing style-
Um...well, I'm random. I'm sarcastic, and reflective and I like to provoke thought and conversation. I prefer each post to feel like a conversation with a friend over a cup of coffee.

What I love about Give1Save1-
Oh man. Seriously? What isn't to love? I think I love the hope it brings the most. I remember going through the adoption process ourselves last year and the panic that financing such a huge thing brings with it. I remember looking at those mountains in front of me and having a conversation with God and asking Him if He was sure about this. My sister told me about this thing called Give1Save1, and I looked it up and emailed Beth.
It was a breath of fresh air. It was different from all of the grants. Dude, have you applied for grants? It's a nightmare. But Give1Save1 reminded me of why we were doing this. We made our video and watching it reminded me that God was with us, that a little boy would die without us and that we weren't alone. Every dollar that came in, from people I knew, people I didn't know, people near and far reminded me that God was there in the middle of that dark time.

Hope, that is what I love the most about Give1Save1.

And there you have it. That is why I want to be a part of this group. That is why I hope this thing grows like there is no tomorrow! I hope the whole world hears about Give1Save1 and the crazy ladies running it. It is my greatest wish that other families feel like they have a place to turn in the middle of a journey that is full of mountains. I hope that we form a community of people lifting each other up when we fall down, breathing hope back into tired souls and watching our Great God bringing the lonely into families.

Be blessed,

New Week-Meet the Bilbrucks

We're up and running...kind of. Blogger is not liking me right now and I have no idea why. I'm not a computer person, at.all. But I'm determined to bring you the Bilbrucks and their precious adoption. So, I phoned a friend! Tonya from our Asia page is going to save the day and copy and paste this baby today. So, forgive us if things aren't lined up perfectly or looks funny. Without further nonsense I bring to you.....
THE BILBRUCKS

You guys must go read their blog. Something about it just draws you in and you can't stop reading it! Lynsey is so down-to-earth honest about this entire process. I love it. I love seeing other people willing to put themselves out there like this.
http://lovepouredoutandoverflowing.blogspot.com/

I'm kind of dying to see the face of Rubie Grace!
Malachi is precious, absolutely precious.
Did you catch that they are bringing home not one, but two sweeties? Two.
Double fees, double stress.

That's where we get to come in. I love this part. Give1Save1 exists for families like this one.
We remind them to place their fears aside and cling to hope.
Every dollar that we give reminds them that they are not alone.
We are fighting with them to get these babies home.

So, watch their video. Try not to cry.
Head to their blog and over on the right hand side find the donate button.
For now, head to paypal and donate to the Bilbrucks.

(there is a golden button on the right hand side that says, "donate.")

Remind them of hope.

...I'll keep you posted on the pure charity link.

Almost Time To Meet Our Family

Happy Sunday, everyone! Get ready to meet or family of the week very soon.....stay tuned!
Tonya:)

Monday, August 5, 2013

I bid you goodbye for a while..and ask you to say hello!

Hey all!
Ok, so we have some big things happening here over at Give1Save1.  Let me just hit you with them. The first being that Give1Save1 is merging! Waaaay back in the beginning we were one big blog. Do you all remember that? Then we branched out and we now have Give1Asia, Give1Europe, Give1Domestic and Give1Caribbean .  That's a LOT of blogs! And a lot of families! So here's the exciting news...we're going back to one big blog! Here's how great it's going to be?! Here's why it's so fantastic, it will increase the range of readers which will (hopefully) increase the support we give our families each week! Also, it will help with families who are just beginning to research adoption, they can go to one page and read about several countries, get connected with lots of families and hopefully get lots of questions answered! We're working on getting all the blogs together and they should be ready to merge in a few weeks, so make sure you like us on Facebook so you can be aware of our new page!

On another note, I'm gonna get real with you all. My hubby and I are in the process of two adoptions, from two different countries.  We're getting ready to bring our son (who will be 3) home in October, hopefully!(he's actually our second adoption but is coming home first, it's a long story) You can read more about our personal story here. Anyway, my hubby is going back to school, and we're quickly becoming first time parents..to a three year old! Life is about to get crazy up in here! So for now, I'm stepping away from Give1Save1. I'll be popping back in from time to time to say hey, share some Africa things with ya, but you are being left in GREAT hands! The mama's of the other Give1 sites are joining together on the new blog, and they love you and can't wait to get to know all the Africa families! The one you'll being seeing most around here until the official merge is Katie!

Katie blogs over at Give1Asia right now but is excited to get to know all the Africa families too! She's awesome! She and the others from the other Give1 site are pumped about the merge into one big blog! It's like we're all one big happy family! You'll wanna get to know Tonya, and the other Katie too, oh and Jennifer! These ladies all have huge hearts for adoption and we're all so excited to see new friendships formed from everyone being in one place! You know, the "adoption" friends you have totally "get" you, and now you can meet lots of other families who's little one's are from lots of different counties, who knows, maybe your heart will be softened for a country you never even knew about right?

Anyway, like I said, I'll still be around here and there. I'll be taking a break for a while, but I'll be back every now and then, and you know where to find me ;)  And like I said, I'll still pop in and out Wynne will still be posting too from time to time, and Alison too and don't forget Jessa, our newest contributor, she's in a BIG cross country move right now, but she'll pop in too :)

So pop over to our personal pages and say hey! Let us know what you're up to! We'll do the same.

New Week, New Family! Meet the Hopkins!

You guys, I want you to meet this family. They are awesome! Meet The Hopkins!

Ok, so get this..they're leaving NEXT WEEK! To get their FOUR girls! Yes, that's right, you read correctly...FOUR girls to their already awesomely large family. I love it. You know what, I'm gonna challenge you this week, I want you to give at least $4 (or more, definitely more if you feel led) to bring home these four little girls. We all know adoption is expensive. Super ecpensive. and we can help take some of that burden off. Imagine me literally on my knees, begging you for $4, ok got that image in your brain? Now do it, give this family $4 (at least!) and SHARE their amazing story!

New Week New Family, The Rogers!

Hey guys,
First off I just wanna say thanks for last week, being on "this side" of the featured families sure was fun, and my husband and I were so humbled and the love and support we felt.  Now, I have an awesome new family that you can shower love and dollars on ;) Meet the Rogers!

They're in the process of adopting from Uganda! They have four little ones at home already and are hoping they're matched with siblings! Here's another little side note, they're also pastors.  I have a soft spot for them because well, my hubby is too! They're praying that they can be an example to their congregation to step up and care for the fatherless. I love it. It's time to step up and bless this family.  They are leading others in their church and faithfully serving and blessing.  It's time to bless them!

Just Love 127

This blog post was written by Katie, who blogs over on our Give1Save1 Asia page! Did y'all know we had an Asia page?! Well, now ya do. Everyone say "Hey Katie!" Well, she wrote this awesome write up about a super fun Etsy shop and I wanted to share it with you all. Enjoy!

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

There is this store on etsy that I love. LOVE.
Not only does the owner make and sell some of the most
amazing things, but she does it for the sake of the orphans!

Just love 127 is a shop owned and operated by an adoptive momma.
She is in the process of speeding back for their third adoption.
Third.
3.
Did you catch that?
Go read their amazing journey on their blog!

Faith, hope and love flow freely from the lips of this lady.
She is walking this path with faith and praying with fervent hope
and she is full of love for a little boy that this world left behind.

Her little boy, Myles, came to her by way of a list of special needs children.
My heart soared when I read that. Children with significant special needs
hold an oh-so-dear place in my heart.

She is defying this world and claiming this boy as royalty.
Because he is. He will fill her life with glimpses of the King of Kings,
this King that calls him son.
He is royalty.

Since they found him so early this process is speeding by SO quickly.
They need to raise their funds fast ya'll. Super fast.
Hallelujah for an adoption process that gets these kids home quickly.

I promise you if you go visit her shop you will not make it out without something in your cart.

See what I mean?

Head on over to her shop and pick something out! You'll also help by bringing an orphan home, it really is a win win ;)

Thanks again Katie for the write up on this awesome shop!
